Teach your child to share this summer

With the onset of summer vacations and a recently started new semester, the air in schools in India is very much enthusiastic. A new term starts with new hopes, a sense of accomplishments, oaths to perform better- study more video game less and so on. Even I remember as a child, fixing a new schedule for myself and pasting it atop my study table. The fact that how much I adhered to it just a week past that charade is still debatable, but the whole point is all kids like myself were looking forward to making a new beginning even then.

Now the schooling culture has changed. Even with sophisticated and advanced international schools in Noida, the charm for a new term remains the same. Purchasing new books, bag and uniform are a part of this exercise. I remember a new geometry box with Archie and sponge bob printed on it, used to look like a gleaming treasure chest. The situation still remains unchanged; children go happily to buy school accessories whether or not they need it. After all the things should be of the latest fashion, imprinted with their favourite cartoon characters and it is a privilege we cannot deny our children.

However, prior to letting them to have the fun of buying new stuff, how about educating them to enjoy it in a more responsible manner? This summer teach your child to share his belongings with those who may not have the privilege of buying one, suggests an international school in Noida. Tell your child that while he is blessed to be able to choose a new school bag just because the cartoon character in the old one is no longer cool amid his friends, there are those who carry their books for miles in bare hands. Educate him that he should do something about it, simply because he is better placed and capable of helping and that sharing his old stuff with others can be a good approach to start with. This will not only be a small charity on your part but will educate your child to become a more compassionate and socially responsible person. The values imbibed from such petty deeds are unmatched.
